Akshay gives Rs 5 lakh to acid attack survivor who was jobless for last 1 year
Known for being a generous heart, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has now come forward to help acid attack survivor and activist Laxmi Agarwal who had recently revealed about her poor financial condition. Laxmi is jobless for last one year. She was fearing eviction from her two room flat in Delhi because she was not left with much money to pay rent.
Laxmi’s ordeal was taken up by a prominent daily first after which many including Akshay rendered their support. Laxmi has a three-year-old daughter with Alok Dixit (a fellow activist and her former boyfriend) and a dependant mother who she has to take care of. Alok and Laxmi hade separated a few years back. Laxmi was jobless and finding it difficult to sustain her family.
But now she is flooded with several job offers. Akshay alone has transferred Rs 5 lakh into her account. And there are many others who have contributed a total of Rs 50,000 in Laxmi’s account.
Laxmi was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times, “I can’t express how I feel.. my daughter and I am not alone. I have got more than 200 calls since yesterday. Many have written to me on social media, wanting to send help.”
Dixit told HT that he was helpless and did not have money to support their child.
Kumar was quoted by the daily as saying, “…Laxmi should be able to search a job with dignity.. I wish people realise that when a person is in need of livelihood, medals, awards and certificates don’t pay the bills.”
