Sydney | Andrew Symonds, the two-time World Cup winner and one of the most recognisable faces in international cricket, was killed in what police said was a single-car crash on Saturday night outside Townsville, on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia.

Police confirmed that the 46-year-old died at the scene of the mishap.

His death is the second famous Australia cricketer to tragically pass away in 2022, after champion leg-spinner Shane Warne died from a heart-attack in Thailand in March.

Former wicketkeeper Rod Marsh also passed away from a heart attack earlier this year.

Warne expired on March 4. Symonds had expressed shock on Warne’s death. “Devastated, I’m hoping this is all a bad dream I just can’t get my head around never seeing you again. Love to all the Warne family I’m speechless”, Symonds had written on his Instagram wall on March 5.

Alongside the post,  Symonds has also shared an image with Shane Warne.

Now on Symonds’ demise, his followers and circket fans are grieving and expressing shock. There is an outpour of messages on his Instagram wall where fans wrote messages – ‘RIP Legend’, ‘RIP Andrew’.
