COVID-19: IITKanpur, ALIMCO jointly develop Techno Advanced Disinfectant Tunnel
Kanpur: To combat the COVID-19 crisis, Technopark@iitk and Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) have jointly developed Techno Advanced Disinfectant Tunnel to disinfect external surfaces.
“The fully automated tunnel fitted with ultrasonic sensors has two chambers with three disinfection processes making it more efficient than other solutions available presently in neutralising the virus”, said Avinash Kumar Agarwal, Professor-In-Charge, Technopark@iitk.
He said that in Chamber one, person is sprayed with a solution of a disinfectant which can be either a dilute solution of approved chemical or an Ayurvedic/ herbal disinfectant. In Chamber two, person is exposed to hot air at 70°C along with far UVC rays (207-222 nm).
The proposed tunnel is developed under industry-academia collaboration under the ambit of Ministry of Human Resources Development and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, respectively, he added.
General Manager (Marketing), ALIMCO, Lt Col PK Dube said, “We are happy to have developed this tunnel in a record time. This high-quality disinfectant tunnel can be used in industry, academic establishments and in public places. We are hopeful that as soon as efficacy test is done we shall be able to manufacture it from our factories and can start production within 15 days.”
Prof Agarwal further informed that IITKanpur had established Technopark in order to catalyse collaboration between industry and academia. Under this initiative, IITKanpur and ALIMCO had collaborated.
