Amid rousing appreciations and calls for Indian citizenship to 19 year old Afghan cricket sensation Rashid Khan, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said that he wont give him away.

“Afghans take absolute pride in our hero, Rashid Khan. I am also thankful to our Indian friends for giving our players a platform to show their skills. Rashid reminds us whats best about Afg. He remains an asset to the cricketing world. No we are not giving him away. @narendramodi,” he wrote on Twitter.

Ghani’s tweet came after many impressed fans demanded that an Indian citizenship is awarded to Rashid Khan.

“Somebody please give Rashid Khan an Indian citizenship! That man deserves to play more international cricket1 Afghanistan has a legendary player in the making!,” an Indian fan, Kaustubh Dhonde, tweeted.

Let me say this: I wish Rashid Khan was Indian and played for India. He’s such a gem.

Rashid smashed an unbeaten 34 off 10 balls to lift Hyderabad’s innings to 174 for seven before leaving the Kolkata Knight Riders spellbound with his fast leg-spinners, claiming three for 19 in his four overs. The 19 year old single handed performance took SRH into Sunday’s final of IPL.
