Union Minister Ananth Kumar passes away in Bengaluru

Union Minister Ananth Kumar, 59, passed away in Bengaluru during the wee hours on Monday. Kumar was unwell and was on ventilator for the last few days, reported news agency PTI. He was admitted in a private hospital in Bengaluru and undergoing treatment for cancer.

Kumar was Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs since 2016 in the Modi government. He had held several ministerial posts in the past. He represented Bengaluru South constituency in the Lok Sabha.

“Minister Ananth Kumar passed away at 3 a.m. at a private hospital where he was undergoing treatment for cancer,” a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Bengaluru R. Ashoka told reporters here.

Senior BJP leaders expressed grief over Ananth Kumar’s demise. PM Narendra Modi said that he was extremely saddened by the passing away of his valued colleague. President Ram Nath Kovind also expressed grief over his demise.

BJP President Amit Shah also expressed grief.
