Two Lucknow University Law Students Arrested for Creating Ruckus Inside Supreme Court

TWO LUCKNOW UNIVERSITY LAW STUDENTS ARRESTED FOR CREATING RUCKUS INSIDE SUPREME COURT
NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police have arrested two law students of Lucknow University following a major ruckus and alleged disruption inside the Supreme Court of India. An FIR (First Information Report) has been registered at the Tilak Marg police station (New Delhi) based on a formal complaint given by the Supreme Court security staff.
According to police officials, the incident took place on July 10, 2026, in Court Room Number 13 during the hearing of a Special Leave Petition (SLP No. 31367/2026, Prabal Pratap & Others v. State of Uttar Pradesh through Commissioner). One of the co-petitioners, identified as Prabal Pratap, was presenting his case personally when he allegedly began deliberately using abusive and highly objectionable language in front of the bench. Witnesses stated that he also threw loose papers inside the courtroom, creating total chaos during the live proceedings.
Security personnel and court staff immediately intervened, requesting him to maintain order and respect the dignity of the court. However, Pratap reportedly turned aggressive and obstructed the security staff from performing their official duties.
Following adverse remarks from the Supreme Court bench, both students were taken to the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences (IHBAS) for a mandatory medical and psychological evaluation. The medical report, however, indicated that neither of them required immediate psychiatric intervention. During the initial investigation, the police also recovered pamphlets containing objectionable text from the possession of the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Prabal Pratap Singh (24), a third-year law student, and Chandra Bhan (23), a second-year law student. The Delhi Police produced both accused before a local court, which remanded them to two-day police custody. A detailed investigation is underway to determine the underlying motives and any potential orchestration behind the incident, senior officials confirmed.
