Turkish plane skids off runway on Black Sea coast

Ankara, Jan 14 : A Turkish passenger plane skidded off the runway at an airport and ended up halfway down a steep slope into the Black Sea, Turkish media reported on Sunday.

The Boeing 737-800 plane, which belongs to Turkey’s Pegasus Airlines, had flown from Ankara to the northeastern city of Trabzon, Xinhua news agency reported.

It lost control after landing on Saturday and got stuck in mud just metres away from the sea, with its head very close to the water.

No one was injured in the incident and all 162 passengers and six crew on board were evacuated, Trabzon Governor Yucel Yavuz said.

The cause of the incident was not immediately known, the Governor said.

Flights resumed at the Trabzon International Airport on Sunday morning, after being temporarily suspended following the incident.
