SP leader booked for objectionable remark about UP CM
Lucknow, Jan 24 : A case has been filed against senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Kamla Prasad Rawat for making an objectionable comment about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, police said on Wednesday.
The case was filed on a complaint by members of the Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV), founded by Yogi Adityanath, in Barabanki.
According to the complaint, at a blanket distribution function in Dariyabad on Saturday, Kamla Prasad compared Yogi Adityanath to jailed godmen Ram Raheem, Parmanand and Asaram and had warned that the monk-turned-politician was likely to end up in jail like them.
A video clipping against Kamla Prasad, a former Lok Sabha member, has also been submitted.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and HYV workers, led by ruling party leader Shashank Kusmesh and HYV’s Ravi Singh, lodged the complaint, police officer Shivakant Tripathi said.
The case has been registered under sections 504 (insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505 (2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
“Based on the complaint and the evidence before us, we are probing the matter and would take legal and appropriate action,” the officer said.
