Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the budget 2019-20, proposed to increase additional excise duty and road and infrastructure cess each by Re 1/litre on petrol and diesel. This will led to an increase in prices of petrol and diesel.

Sitharaman said that softening of crude oil prices has given her a room to review cess and excise duty on petrol and diesel.

She also proposed to increase customs duty on gold.
