Partially blind teacher held for molesting two minor girls

New Delhi :  A partially blind teacher working with a government school in the national capital has been arrested for molesting two minor students, police said on Thursday.

The police said the incidents were reported to them by the school management on Friday, but the accused teacher — identified as Awadhesh Kumar — was arrested on Monday.

“The victim students of Class 8 of a government school at Maurice Nagar complained to their parents about Kumar repeatedly molesting them inside the school over the last couple of weeks,” a senior police officer told IANS.

“The police were approached by the school management after the victims’ family members demanded strict action against Kumar. The victims — aged 13-14 years — said in the complaints that Kumar used to touch their bodies inappropriately after calling them separately on the pretext of giving them extra tutorials,” he said.

Kumar taught students Hindi language. The victims alleged that sometimes he called them for helping him in walking as he is partially visually impaired. When victims complained against him, Kumar claimed that he was being targeted because of his partial vision.

“We have booked Kumar on the charges of stalking, molestation and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. We suspect that some other girls might also also have been targeted by Kumar. The counselling of victims and other students is being done,” the officer added.

The school management has put up a letter box so that similar complaints could be received from other students in case they were also targeted by Kumar.
