Now, Dr Ambedkar’s statue vandalised in Meerut

Unidentified people vandalised statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. The incident reportedly took place late on Tuesday night. The Dalit community was up in arms against the statue desecration. The incident was in continuation to the statue desecration of communist icon Lenin in Tripura, Bhartiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mukherjee in Kolkata and social reformer and rationalist leader Periyar in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district.

The police have registered a case against unknown people. According to News18, district administration of Meerut had swung into action and replaced the damaged statue with a new one. This was done to ensure there is no law and order problem in the district.

Meerut police according to the media reports had initiated investigation into the statue desceration episode.
