Mumbai : Woman held for sexually assaulting a minor boy

A woman who is in her early twenties was recently arrested in Mumbai for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy whom she had ‘married’. According to media reports, POCSO (Prevention of Children From Sexual Offences) Act and Child Marriage Act was slapped against the woman by the Mumbai police. The case has been lodged at Kurla police station.

The woman is currently lodged in Byculla Jail along with her five month old daughter – she had with the minor boy. According to a India Today report, the woman has approached the Mumbai sessions court for bail. The court will be passing an order on this case on Friday.

The woman according to a Times of India report, claimed that they got married last year and that their relationship was concensual.

She was arrested on the complaint filed by the boy’s mother. The police complaint filed by the boy’s mother stated that the woman had lured her son and that she was a two-time divorcee.

The definition of a child under the Child Marriage Act means a male below the age of 21 years and a female who is yet not 18-years of age. The boy according to his mother is 17 years and eight months old.
