IPS officer admitted to hospital, poisoning suspected

An IPS officer of SP rank posted in Kanpur district was rushed to a private hospital after he was found unconscious at his home under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday morning. He is suspected to have consumed something poisonous.

Surendra Kumar Das is posted as SP (East) in Kanpur. After his condition deteriorated on early Wednesday morning, he was admitted to Kanpur’s Regency hospital in a critical condition.

Senior police officials remained tight-lipped about the incident. The reason behind the alleged consumption of poison is not known so far. A medical bulletin is awaited.

According to news agency ANI, hospital sources have confirmed traces of poison in Das’ body.

Das is a 2014 batch IPS officer and is posted in Kanpur as SP (East) since August 3, 2018.
