Five CRPF jawans were martyred and two terrorists killed in a militant attack on a CRPF training centre in Pulwama district of J&K on Sunday, police officials said. Terrorists had first hurled grenades on the CRPF camp and later resorted to indiscriminate firing. They were heavily armed. This led to gunfight between the Indian forces and the terrorists.
“Four CRPF jawans were martyred in the operation that lasted for nearly 12 hours,” a police officer said.
After barging in, the two militants secured positions in the CRPF camp located on the Srinagar-Jammu highway until they were killed.
Three others who were injured in the militant attack were rushed to the Srinagar hospital. CRPF, Rashtriya Rifles and J&K police had jointly carrying out operation against the terrorists, J&K police said.
Pakistan based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed the responsibility for the attack on the 185th Battalion of the CRPF.
As a precaution, authorities suspected Internet facility in Pulwama district.
Traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway was halted for some time during the counter-insurgency operations.
