Five minors arrested for raping a minor in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh police on Thursday arrested five minor boys aged 16-17 years for allegedly raping a 12 year old girl for the last two months. While two of the accused are in class VII, one is in class X, one boy is an intermediate student, another one is an illetrate, reported Hindustan Times.
The arrest has been made from Punganur town of Chittor district in the state. The accused live in the neighbourhood of the girl. While the victim belongs to a poor family, her father had expired long ago and her mother is a labourer.
The boys were produced before a local court and were subsequently shifted to the juvenile home after judicial remand.
HT quoted Punganur police inspector P Sainath as saying that the boys had first lured the girl in their neighbourhood by offering her chocolates about two months ago and allegedly raped her.
Subsequently they repeated the offence several times by threatening her of dire consequences if she revealed the crime.
It was on Wednesday night that the girl opened up about the crime before her family who then caught hold of two of the accused and thrashed them. They later handed them over to the police. Three other boys were also arrested soon.
Sainath said that cases under section 376 of IPC have been lodged. Also POCSO has been slapped against them.
