Explosion at Bar in Switzerland’s Crans-Montana Ski Resort, Several Feared Dead

Switzerland | A powerful explosion occurred early Thursday morning at a bar in the luxury ski resort city of Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Several people are feared dead, while many others have been seriously injured, Swiss police have confirmed.

As soon as information about the blast was received, police, fire brigade and ambulance teams rushed to the scene and launched rescue and relief operations. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where the condition of some victims is reported to be critical. As a precautionary measure, the bar and the surrounding area have been sealed off.

Gaëtan Lathion, spokesperson for the police in Valais canton in southwestern Switzerland, said that the cause of the explosion is not yet known. He confirmed that several people were injured and that fatalities have occurred, though the official number of those killed and wounded has not been released so far.

According to the police, a detailed investigation is underway to determine whether the explosion was accidental or the result of deliberate action. Forensic teams are collecting evidence from the site and people who were present in the bar at the time of the incident are being questioned.

Crans-Montana is one of Switzerland’s most popular and upscale ski destinations, attracting a large number of tourists throughout the year. Tourist footfall is particularly high around the New Year period. Given this, the incident has raised serious concerns among local authorities and security agencies.
