Chandigarh woman alleges gang-rape in Haryana, 3 held

Chandigarh : A young woman from Chandigarh has alleged that she was gang-raped by up to 10 men for four days after being held captive in a private guest in Morni Hills area of adjoining Haryana’s Panchkula district, police said on Friday.

The victim, aged around 21 years, and resident of Mani Majra area of Chandigarh, alleged that she was taken to the guest house by a man known to her husband on the pretext of getting her a job in the guest house.

But she was held captive there from July 15 to 18 and the men took turns over the four days to rape her.

The victim claimed that she was able to escape from captivity on July 18 (Wednesday) after the four-day ordeal.

A case was registered by the Chandigarh Police at Mani Majra Police Station after the Haryana Police refused to register the rape case at the Morni Police Post.

So far, three arrests have been made in connection with the case. Those arrested include two employees of the guest house, Honey and Avtar. They were sent to 14-day judicial custody by a court here on Friday.

The Haryana Police has suspended Morni Police Post In-charge, a constable and a woman Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Women Police Station, Panchkula, in connection with the Morni gang-rape case, Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rajender Kumar Meena said.

“A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IPS officer Anshu Singla has been constituted to investigate the case. SHO, Chandi Mandir, and SHO, Women Police Station, would assist Anshu Singla,” Meena told the media.

Meena said that the entire matter would be investigated and CCTV footage would also be scanned.

“So far, three accused have been arrested and the guilty would not be spared. It would also be checked as to why case was not registered in Panchkula,” he added.
