Even before the dust could settle completely over the Hathras incident, another Dalit girl who was also a minor has been allegedly raped and strangulated in a village in Barabanki district.
The girl’s body was found on Wednesday in a paddy field. Police have arrested one of the accused who has been identified as Dinesh Gautam, aged 19.
The police had initially filed a murder case against an unidentified person but after the post-mortem report confirmed sexual assault, the charge of rape under IPC section 376 was added to the FIR.
Based on documents, police ascertained that the girl was a minor. Accordingly, POCSO Act was also included in the FIR.
According to additional SP (Barabanki) Ram Sewak Gautam, “The FIR, on Wednesday, was registered under section 302 of the IPC. On Thursday, we added section 376 (rape) of the IPC based on the post-mortem report. ALso POCSO Act has been included in the FIR.”
He further said that based on some documents, the victim was under 18 years of age.
According to senior police official the accused had been nabbed and he has been identified as Dinesh Gautam who has accepted his involvement in the crime.
According to the girl’s father, she had gone to the fields in the day to harvest the crop.
“Around 5.30 pm, when she did not return home, I got worried and started looking for her. Around half an hour later, I went to the field and saw her slippers. A little ahead, I found her lifeless body,” he said.
The victim was the eldest of four siblings. While her younger sister is around 15, her twin brothers are around seven.
The victim was cremated on Thursday evening after the police assured them of arresting the accused at the earliest.
