Afzal Guru’s son, Burhan Wani’s brother bring laurels to family

Srinagar, Jan 11  Undeterred by the tragedies that struck their families, Afzal Guru’s son and Burhan Wani’s brother have brought laurels to their respective families as they scored high and passed the 12th class exam with flying colours.

Ghalib, son of Afzal Guru — who was hanged after being convicted for attacking the Indian parliament, has passed the 12th class examination with distinction securing over 88 per cent marks.

The boy had also passed his 10th class examination securing over 95 per cent marks.

Naveed Wani, brother of then Hizbul-Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani — who was killed in a gunfight with security forces, has passed the class 12th exam securing distinction.

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education declared the result for the class 12th exam on Wednesday.

Burhan’s sister had also in 2016 secured distinction when she passed her 12th class exam securing 449 marks.

Ghalib told media persons that he misses his father Afzal Guru the most on occasions when he would have rejoiced on the success of his son.

The boy said he would now prepare for the NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) as it had been the dream of his father to see Ghalib as a doctor.

Incidently, Afzal Guru had also pursued medical education before giving it up midway. Guru was hanged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in 2013 for his role in the December 13 attack on the Indian Parliament.

Burhan was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Kokernag area of south Kashmir on July 8, 2016.

His death was followed by a massive civil unrest in the Valley in which nearly 100 people were killed and around 200 others suffered either total or partial loss of vision due to pellet gunshots used by the security forces against protestors.
