Palghar: Youth Held After ‘Kashmir Banega Pakistan’ Song Played in Salon

Palghar | Tension briefly escalated in the Chinchoti area of Maharashtra’s Palghar district after an anti-national slogan-based song was allegedly played at inside a salon near a Durga Mata temple. Acting swiftly, the Naigaon Police arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with the incident.

According to the FIR registered at Naigaon Police Station, Sub-Inspector Pankaj Kilje was on patrol in a private vehicle at around 1:30 pm when he heard the song “Kashmir banega Pakistan” being played loudly from Ruhan Hair Cutting Salon, located opposite the Durga Mata temple in the Karmadpada area of Chinchoti. The song, played through a loudspeaker, was audible on the road and triggered anger among local residents.

When SI Kilje entered the salon to investigate, two individuals were present: Gulzari Raju Sharma (51), a resident of Karmadpada who works at the salon, and Abdul Rehman Sadruddin Shah (25), a resident of Gauri Sirajpur village under Lalganj police station in Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh. Police investigation revealed that Shah was playing the song via YouTube on his Tecno Spark Go (2021) mobile phone and streaming it to the salon’s speaker using Bluetooth.

Locals, provoked by the song, reportedly caught hold of the youth at the spot and handed him over to the police. During examination of Shah’s mobile phone, police found the same objectionable song that had been played earlier.

Police said such an act goes against the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the country and had the potential to disturb public peace and promote enmity and hatred among communities. The incident led to a brief period of tension in the area, which was brought under control due to prompt police intervention.

Naigaon Police have registered a case against Abdul Rehman Sadruddin Shah under Section 197(1)(d) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested him. Further investigation is underway. The FIR does not mention any criminal role against salon employee Gulzari Raju Sharma.
