Four killed as speeding XUV-500 crashes into parked truck on Rishikesh–Haridwar route

Rishikesh | A tragic road accident occurred late Tuesday night on the Rishikesh–Haridwar route, leaving four youths dead on the spot. The accident took place near the PNB City Gate around 11:30 p.m., when a speeding XUV-500 rammed into a truck parked on the roadside.

According to police, the XUV-500 (registration number UK07 FS 5587), which was travelling from Haridwar towards Rishikesh, went out of control and collided with a stationary truck bearing registration number HR 58 A 9751. The impact was so severe that the car was completely mangled, trapping all four occupants inside.

Upon receiving information about the accident, police and emergency services rushed to the spot. After considerable effort, the police managed to retrieve the bodies of the four youths from the damaged vehicle. The deceased were then transported by ambulance to the AIIMS Rishikesh mortuary. The accident caused temporary disruption to traffic on the route.

Police said the process of identifying the deceased is currently underway. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated, though preliminary findings suggest overspeeding and the collision with the parked truck as the primary reasons.

Meanwhile, On the night of December 4, a car fell into a gorge on the Takula Highway in Almora district near Danth Gadhera, about one kilometre ahead of Sirkot. One person was seriously injured in that incident and was rescued after local residents, police and SDRF personnel cut open the car door using a cutter to pull the victim out safely.
