Ziran Army Camp Conducted Tangmarg Cricket Premier League : 2018
To usher in communal harmony and to inculcate sportsman spirit amongst the youth of Tangmarg Tehsil in Baramulla district of J&K, a cricket tournament for both boys and girls was conducted by Indian Army at Tangmarg; which was first of its kind in the area as it saw active participation of the girls with full support rendered by their parents for their wards.
The event was aimed at providing impetus to Army’s efforts to promote positive youth development through sports and provide an equal platform to both boys and girls to showcase their talent.
A total of 16 boys teams and four girls teams from various villages of far flung and remote areas of Tangmarg Tehsil participated in the tournament on league cum knock-out basis. The boys final was played between Warpora and Zaspora and girls final was pitched between Rahat ghar and Goodwill School, Ziran in which all the finalist teams contested with great enthusiasm and both the final contests were converted in to a do or die battle by them in front of huge gathering of local populace, employees of all near by offices and various government dignitaries.
The roads and markets for the duration of the event wore deserted look as everyone had thronged the Tangmarg Cricket Ground to witness the finals of Tangmarg Cricket Premier League.
The civil administration and local population was highly appreciative of the Army’s endeavour to promote sports culture in the area and involve both boys and girls for such constructive activities and encourage them to become part of National main stream.
The event culminated with distribution of prizes amongst the winners and runners up of the tournament. An interaction over a cup of tea also took place between the youth and the representatives of Army wherein the youth of the area including girl participants thanked the Army for their continuous support and conducting such like events wherein youth also love to participate and foster their association with the Army.
