Woman born without uterus and vagina, underwent a successful rare laparoscopy reconstruction

To get a uterus and vagina, a 22 year old woman from Kerala underwent a rare laparoscopy reconstruction surgery. The surgery was declared successful. The woman was born without uterus and vagina. When the woman was a 13 year old girl, she and her family came to know about this body deformity. She did not get her periods.

The surgery was conducted three months ago after the doctors at private hospital confirmed her gender through chromosomal analysis.

“It was when she was 13 years of age, the woman and her family discovered about her lack of genitals”, reported The Hindu.

“The woman has a patent vagina and can now lead a healthy sexual life. She can also conceive through Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)”, The New Indian Express quoted Dr Urmila Soman as saying. Dr Urmila and her team had conducted the successful surgery on the woman.
