UP MLC gets 7 years in jail for forgery

Lucknow | Akshay Pratap Singh Gopal ji, a member of the UP legislative council, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment after being convicted by a MP/MLA court in a case of cheating and forgery registered against him under IPC sections 420, 468 and 471.
Akshay Pratap is said to be a close aide of Raja Bhaiyya and a candidate of Jansatta Dal Loktantrik in the upcoming MLC elections.
The MP/MLA court, which found Akshay Pratap guilty of obtaining arms (revolver) licence on a fake address, announced the quantum of sentence on Wednesday.
Akshay Pratap is a resident of Jamo area in Amethi. According to reports, he obtained the revolver licence by showing his address as that of Pratapgarh.
The then police station in charge had filed a case against him in 1997 at Nagar Kotwali. The case was going on in the MP/MLA court.
