Swaraj India tests Karnataka waters, fails to open account

New Delhi : Swaraj India, which contested 11 Karnataka Assembly seats, on Tuesday said while it did not win any seat, its candidates have polled 79,400 votes which was a creditable beginning.

“While we did not win any seat, our candidate and state General Secretary Darshan Puttannaiah finished second fighting against the money and power of the Janata Dal-Secular which is a truly encouraging beginning.

“We congratulate our Karnataka team for a brave and honest battle against the corrupt political establishment,” a party statement said.

Party chief spokesperson Anupam said at a time when almost all political parties in the fray dodged the real and pressing issues of the people, Swaraj India raised relevant issues.

“At a time when unholy attempts were being made to divide and polarise the electorate on lines of caste and religion, Swaraj India kept itself away from any such divisive agenda.

“We would like to thank the voters of Karnataka and promise to be a genuine people’s voice with energy and vigour. The battle continues,” Anupam added.
