According to media reports, the girl who was sleeping next to her parents, was abducted and raped in a basement of the building which has several shops. Later, she was killed. The accused was spotted on a CCTV camera carrying the girl on his shoulder. The police managed to arrest the accused who is a distant relative of the girl.

The post-mortem examination of the deceased which was conducted at state run-MY Hospital, suggested that the girl might have been raped before being murdered as there was an injury mark at her private part, reported The Indian Express. NDTV also reported that the child’s body had injury marks on the private parts.

“The body of the infant was recovered from the basement of a commercial building. The accused, Sunil Bheel, had kidnapped the girl in the morning hours when she was asleep with her parents outside the Rajwada Fort. The accused was sleeping close to the family,” Press Trust Of India quoted Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Indore, HC Mishra as saying. He also added that Bheel was known to the family.

“The accused is seen carrying the infant in CCTV images of around 4:45am today. He then took her to the basement of the building, some 50 metres away from where the family was sleeping, and her body was recovered in the afternoon,” Mishra said.

“The infant had an injury on her head. The accused probably threw her to the ground. We are going to arrest him shortly,” he added.
