The Supreme Court on Friday refused to stay the implementation of 10 percent reservation in jobs and education for economically weaker sections of the general category.

Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi led bench, however, said, “we will examine the issue”.

The bench issued notice to the centre seeking response in four weeks time.

The court was hearing a PIL challenging the recently enacted law to provide 10% reservation in government jobs and higher education to economically weaker sections of the general category.

The petition was filed by an NGO, Youth For Equality.
