The Minister’s order came during a high-level meeting attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and Intelligence Bureau Director Rajiv Jain.

The meeting was held at Rajnath Singh’s residence after recent report from Maharashtra Police regarding certain communication amongst individuals having links to Maoist organisations containing references to targeting the Prime Minister, said a Home Minister official.

According to the official, the Home Minister directed that all necessary measures be taken in consultation with other agencies to suitably strengthen the security arrangements for the Prime Minister.

Police in Pune on June 7 informed a court that they had seized a “letter” from the house of a Delhi resident Rona Wilson, one of the five people arrested on June 6 for having alleged Maoist “links”.

The purported letter allegedly mentioned about a plan of the ultras mulling “Rajiv Gandhi-type incident” and suggesting that Modi should be targeted during his road shows.
