Proclaimed offender, ex-MLA Rambir Shokeen arrested by Delhi Police

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested ex-MLA from Delhi and proclaimed offender Rambir Shokeen. The arrest comes two years after he escaped from the custody of three Baghpat police officers from Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. He was absconding since then.

Accused Shokeen, an elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Delhi Legislative Assembly in the year 2013 was found using clout of criminals of a syndicate for contesting MLA elections in furtherance of his political ambitions and for gaining pecuniary benefits.In 2015, he was declared proclaimed offender in a MCOCA case.

On November 27, 2016, Shokeen was arrested along with an illegal 9 mm prohibited bore pistol with 2 live cartridges U/s 25/27/54/59 Arms Act P.S. Special Cell, Delhi. Subsequently on in December 2016, he was arrested in MCOCA case and on March 8, 2017 a charge sheet against him was filed in court.

“The arguments on charge were continued against him in MCOCA case but on September 26, 2018 he escaped from the custody of Uttar police escort party from Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. On Monday, the accused has been arrested in case u/s 223/224/174A/120B IPC at Tihar jail Court Complex and he has been sent to judicial custody till 04.01.2021,” said Ingit Pratap Singh, DCP South West Delhi.

Shokeen is a close associate of notorious inter-state gangster Neeraj Bawana. He was running this syndicate in Delhi/NCR along with Bawana and other associates like Sunil Rathi, Naveen, Rahul, Amit Malik, Pankaj Sehrawat, Naveen Bhanja and others for creating havoc by committing a series of sensational crimes including murder, extortion of businessmen on fear of criminal intimidation, obstruction of government servants in discharge of official duties and offences under the Arms Act.
