No new cases in 59 districts in past 14 days: Health Ministry

New Delhi: No new cases have been reported from 59 districts spread across 23 states/Union Territories in the past 14 days, according to the Union Health Ministry here on Monday.

However, the coronavirus situation is serious in Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkatta, Howrah and Medinipur East, 24 Parganas North, Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri.

Maharashtra has reported 4,203 coronavirus cases and 223 deaths due to Covid-19. In Madhya Pradesh, the number of cases is 1,485 with 74 deaths. Rajasthan has reported 1,478 cases and 14 deaths due to the coronavirus infection. In West Bengal, there have been 339 cases and 12 deaths.

Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary Health Ministry, said, “All Covid-19 patients in Goa were discharged from hospital after recovery. Mahe (Puducherry), Kodaggu (Karnataka) and Pauri Garhwal (Uttrakhand) districts have also not reported any fresh case in the past last 28 days. There are 59 more districts in 23 States/UTs that have not reported any fresh cases during the past 14 days.”

Six new districts that had been included on this list are Dungarpur and Pali in Rajasthan, Jamnagar and Morbi in Gujarat, North Goa in Goa and Gomati in Tripura, he said.

Agarwal expressed concern over reports that some journalists in Mumbai had tested coronavirus positive, and said while performing their duties they must take the required precautions, follow the social distancing norms and always wear masks.
