Justice AK Sikri recuses from hearing plea challenging Rao’s appointment as interim CBI director

Supreme Court Justice AK Sikri on Thursday recused himself from hearing a petition challenging appointment of M. Nagaeswara Rao as the interim director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The petition was filed by NGO Common Cause.

Rao was given the charge of CBI’s interim director earlier in January till the appointment of a regular director after a selection committee headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had removed Alok Verma as the chief of the CBI on the charges of corruption and deriliction of duty.

On January 21, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi had recused himself from hearing the plea challenging the centre government’s January 10 decision of appointing M. Nageswara Rao as the interim director of the probe agency.

Justice Gogoi had said that he would be taking part in the meeting on January 24 to select new CBI director.
