Jail inmates drink, make extortion call from inside the barrack, six officials suspended

A video of jail inmates drinking liquor and making an extortion call from inside a jail in Uttar Pradesh is being widely shared on social media. This has forced the authorities to suspend six jail officials. Also, an inquiry has been set up into the sensitive case.
The criminals in the video are believed to be lodged in Raebareli district jail.
In the video, a group of criminals could be seen drinking liquor and smoking cigarettes. They are seen partying inside their barrack. One of them is seen using a mobile phone to demand money from trader.
In the video, one of the criminals is heard asking the person (on the other side of the phone) to provide Rs 10,000 to the jailer at his residence and Rs 5,000 to deputy jailer. He is also seen asking the trader to deliver liquor and other items in the jail. Some bullets are also seen lying on the criminal’s bed.
Hindustan Times quoted Principal secretary (home and prisons) Arvind Kumar as saying that senior superintendent of Raebareli district jail Pramod Mishra, jailer Govind Ram Mishra, deputy jailer Ram Chandra Tewari, head warder Lalta Prasad Pandey and two warders Ganga Ram and Shiv Mangal Singh have been suspended on Monday.
The daily reported that the departmental inquiry against the jail officials has been initiated into the matter. It is being investigated how mobile phones, bullets, cigarettes, liquor and other items reached inside the jail.
