ISRO Chairman gets ‘Y Plus’ category security

New Delhi :  ISRO Chairman and renowned scientist Sivan K. has been accorded “Y Plus” category VIP security entailing protection by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) commandos, an official said on Friday.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief, who is also designated as the Secretary (Space) in the Union government, will be guarded by a team of about 3-5 armed commandos.

The ISRO chairman has been given the security cover after his appointment to the post in January, the official added.

Sivan was working as Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre before he was appointed the ISRO chief. He has completed his Ph.D in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay.

Sivan joined the ISRO in 1982 in the PSLV project and contributed immensely towards end- to-end mission planning, mission design, mission integration, and analysis.

The CISF currently provides security to 72 VVIPs and VIPs under “Z Plus”, “Z”, “Y Plus”, “Y” and “X” categories across India.

Special Security Group (SSG), a wing of CISF, provides security to these VIPs, including Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, Minister for Communication Manoj Sinha, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, former Union Minister and nine-time lawmaker from Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal.
