appears to have been kept on hold for the time being even as the Congress is not giving up on efforts to rope in like-minded parties like Trinamool Congress and DMK.

Sources said that the issue has been left hanging but not closed. There is also no bar on carrying forward the move during the inter-session period.

Asked at a press conference, Congress deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma said: “We never said that the chapter has either opened or closed. This is a matter of discussion among political parties. This thing can’t be discussed in press conferences. When any such decision is taken, we will let you know.

“If there is no decision yet, and it has not been announced to you, then discussion on it is futile,” he added.

The Congress has already collected more than 50 signatures of Rajya Sabha members but is said to be keen on getting endorsement from parties like Trinamool Congress to broad-base the move.

A party MP said the impeachment motion may be brought in the monsoon session of parliament.

Party sources said even otherwise the “required message” has been sent to the judiciary.
