Jamnagar : An Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar crashed in Gujarat’s Kutch on Tuesday, killing its pilot, an official said. The debris of the plane had strewn on the outskirts of the village where the aircraft had crashed.

An IAF spokesperson said the aircraft was on a routine training mission when it met with the accident at Jamnagar around 10.30 a.m. Air Commodore Chauhan was the Air Officer Commanding at Jamnagar Air Force Station. He had left the Jamnagar airbase on Tuesday morning.

“The pilot, Air Commodore Sanjay Chauhan, sustained fatal injuries during the crash,” the spokesperson said.

News agency ANI reported that the Jaguar pilot Air Commodore Sanjay Chauhan lost his life in the crash.

A Court of Inquiry has been ordered.

The Jaguar is a twin-engine, ground attack aircraft which can penetrate deep behind enemy lines on bombing runs. It has a maximum speed of 1,350 kmph or 1.3 times the speed of sound. The aircraft is ageing since it was inducted into the Indian Air Force in 1979 — almost four decades ago, reported NDTV
