Wagay and another policeman were killed in Pulwama by militants, who also took away the service rifles of the two slain policemen.
The attack occurred during the holiest Muslim night of ‘Shab-e-Qadra’ when Muslims the world over engage in prayers seeking penance for their sins.
The attack has been widely condemned and the turning out of people in such large numbers to mourn the death of the policeman stands out as proof of the public response to it.
