Gujarat : Locals risk their lives in crossing collapsed bridge, children worst hit

Since a bridge connecting Naika and Bherai villages in Gujarat’s Kheda town has collapsed and the alternate route for commuting is too long, villagers including school children are left with no other option than to commute through the same bridge, thereby risking their lives.

People risk their lives in crossing the bridge which lies collapsed for last two months. The locals said that they will have to travel a distance of 10 km to reach either of the two villages.

Villagers help children in crossing over the bridge and reaching the otherwise. Children with their school bags on their back are somehow crossed over to otherside, while canal flows underneath.

News agency ANI reported that for past two months, local have been petitioning the authorities to construct a bridge which connects Naika and Bherai villages.

ANI quoted Kheda collector IK Patel as saying that the construction work will resume soon. He said that it is only due to rain that the work of the bridge has not begun.
