Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has kicked a storm by saying that he is unaffected by the rising fuel prices as he is a Minister and that he may suffer if he loses his Ministerial post.

“I am not suffering from rising fuel prices as I am a minister. I may suffer if I lose my Ministerial post”, news agency ANI quoted Athawale as saying who was in Jaipur when he made the statement.

However, he expressed concern that people are suffering due to ever increasing prices of fuel in the country. “It is the duty of the government to reduce it (fuel prices)”, he said. He further added that the government was working on a solution to bring down the prices.

Athawale who heads the Republican Party of India is Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment.

The Modi government is presently facing flak from people over increasing fuel prices and the opposition parties had even called for a Nationwide ‘Bandh’ on the very issue on Monday.
