Fuel prices rise to unprecedented levels, opposition attacks Modi government
Narendra Modi led BJP government in the centre has come under sharp attack from opposition over rising fuel prices in the country. Petrol and diesel prices rose for the 10th consecutive day on Tuesday. These prices are already at unprecedented levels in the country.
Petrol is being sold at Rs 79.31 per litre in Delhi, in Mumbai it is available for Rs 86.72 per litre. In Kolkata, each litre of petrol is available for Rs 82.22. Similarly, in Chennai, the petrol is being sold at Rs 82.41 per litre. These are record prices at which the petrol is being sold in the four metros.
Diesel is priced at Rs 71.34 in Delhi, Rs 74.19 in Kolkata, Rs 75.74 in Mumbai and Rs 75.39 in Chennai.
It is very likely that the fuel prices will continue to rise due to several factors including US sanctions on Iran. The surge in fuel prices is also largely attributed to the rise in crude oil prices and high rate of excise duty in the country.
“Dear Modiji, please show some kindness on a festival day…Your jumlas are not taxed, but when will you reduce the tax on petrol-diesel? In Expectation -Distressed People,” Congress’ chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted on Monday.
Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said the government had made a “mess” of the economy.
