Five women gangraped at gunpoint in Jharkhand

Five women enaged in anti-human trafficking campaigns in Jharkhand’s Khunti district were allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by atleast half a dozen armed men.
News agency PTI quoted police as saying that five women working with an NGO were allegedly raped at gunpoint by group of five men when they had gone to Chochang village in Jharkhand to create awareness on migration and human trafficking.
According to Indianexpress.com, the police said that they have registered a case of gangrape against unidentified persons.
According to police, the five women had gone to village to stage a street play against human trafficking where some men had objected to their performance and allegedly raped them after an argument.
According to The Hindu, the incident had happened on June 19 when five women including a married one had gone to RC Mission School in Kochang village under the Arki police station of Kunti district, some 90 km from Ranchi.
The culprits also recorded the incident on their mobile phones and threatened them that they would make the video ‘viral’ if they approached police.
Ranchi Range Deputy Inspector General of Police, A.V. Homkar was quoted as saying by The Hindu that three separate teams of police have been formed to nab the criminals, some of whom have also been identified.
