Fire on Patna-Delhi Spicejet flight, plane makes emergency landing at Patna airport

A Patna-Delhi bound Spicejet flight made an emergency landing at Patna airport soon after take-off as fire broke out on the plane. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon.

According to media reports quoting locals, engine of the plane caught fire and local people were the ones who noticed it first. They informed the district and airport authorities about the fire mishap.

There were 185 passengers on board. All passengers are safe as plane made a safe landing.

Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh told mediapersons that all 185 passengers on board the Spicejet flight are safe. He said that the Delhi bound flight made emergency landing at Patna airport after locals noticed fire in the aircraft and had subsequently informed the district and airport authorities.

He said that the reason for the fire is technical glitch, however, the engineering team is analysing it further.

Meanwhile, Spicejet has issued a statement on Twitter. The company said, “On June 19, 2022, SpiceJet B737-800 aircraft was operating SG-723 (Patna-Delhi). On takeoff, during rotation, cockpit crew suspected bird hit on Engine. As a precautionary measure and as per SOP, Captain shutdown the affected engine and decided to return to Patna. The aircraft landed safely in Patna and passengers were safely deboarded. Post flight inspection showed bird hit with 3 fan blades damaged.
