COVID-19 vaccine trial: 150 volunteers administered Covaxin in Kanpur

Kanpur: Medical experts administered indigenously developed COVID vaccine – Covaxin to 60 volunteers at Kanpur’s Prakhar hospital on Monday. While on Saturday last, 17 volunteers were given Covaxin, on Sunday, another lot of 73 persons were administered the same vaccine.
Kanpur is one such city where phase II and III trials of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine and phase III trials of Covaxin are going on simultaneously.
While Sputnik V is being administered at industrial city’s GSVM medical college, Covaxin is being given at Prakhar hospital.
So far 150 volunteers have been administered Covaxin, 13 other volunteers have received Sputnik V dose at GSVM college.
Principal Investigator at Prakhar hospital, Dr JS Kushwaha said that of 60 volunteers who were administered Covaxin on Monday, 35 were females. He said that a total of 150 volunteers have been administered Covaxin.
The phase three trial of Covaxin had commenced in Kanpur on Saturday. Second phase trial of Russia’s COVID vaccine – Sputnik V had also commenced on the same day.
