Burari family’s pet dog Tommy too dies of cardiac failure
The pet dog of the family whose 11 members were found dead in their house in Burari in Delhi on July 1, also died on Sunday. The dog died due to cardiac arrest. He was the only witness to the mass deaths. When the dog was rescued and brought to House of Stray Animals in Noida, he was very aggressive.
Dog named Tommy was the only surviving living being in the house when the police had reached there. They were stumbled upon to witness that 10 of the family members were hanging in what appeared to be a case of mass suicide. The oldest member of the family, Narayani Devi (77) was found dead in another room.
When rescued Tommy was chained on the terrace of the Burari house and was suffering from high fever. He was then adopted by Sanjay Mohapatra. Mohapatra told Hindustan Times that it took rescue team 90 minutes to muzzle the dog and put him in an ambulance.
“Initially Tommy was depressed and had refused food for the first two days but his condition improved soon and he had resumed taking meals. He had also become friendly”, Mohapatra told the daily.
He said that Tommy was fine till Sunday evening and even had his meals. He said that he took Tommy for a walk in the evening and brought him back home at 6 pm after which he suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed all of a sudden. “We took help of veterinary at our shelter and did our best to revive him but failed”, he said.
