Padma Bhushan historian Professor Irfan Habib while reacting to BJP changing names of cities has suggested that the party should consider changing the name of its chief Amit Shah as Shah is a persian word. He said that Shah is not a word from Sanskrit.

“Shah is a persian word, it is not from Sanskrit. If they (BJP) are changing the names of cities, they should first start with their own names”, Professor Irfan was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Sunday.

In the BJP ruled Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi Adityanath first changed the name of Mughalsarai railway station to Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay junction and then he changed the name of Allahabad city to Prayagraj and also announced changing name of Faizabad to Ayodhya.

Also BJP lawmakers are demanding for changing the name of some other UP cities. While BJP MLA from Sardhana constituency, Sangeet Som has suggested renaming Muzaffarnagar to Laxminagar, BJP Lawmaker from Agra, Jagan Prasad Garg wants Agra to renamed to ‘Agrawal’ or ‘Agravan’.
