Bengal monitor lizard allegedly gangraped by four men, all accused nabbed

Four people have been arrested for allegedly raping a monitor lizard in the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. The shameful incident has been executed by four hunters. They had allegedly entered the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve and committed the crime.

The four have been identified as Sandeep Tukaram, Pawar Mangesh, Janardan Kamtekar and Akshay Sunil.

The alleged incident came to the light when the officials of Maharashtra Forest Department checked the mobile phone of four men. The officials were shocked to learn that they had indulged in the said crime and then also recorded it. According to media reports, the video showed that the four men were allegedly gang-raping the monitor lizard.

The four men were traced with the help of the CCTV footage. They were seen roaming in the forest.

According to the media reports, the officials said that they would produce the four accused before the court and take legal action against them.

The Bengal Monitor Lizard is protected specie under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. If the charge against the accused stands proved in the Court of Law, they could face seven years of imprisonment.
