Indian team had put up its best show at the Asiad this year winning 69 medals (the best ever medal tally) which included 15 gold medals. One among the medal winners was Harish Kumar who was member of Indian Sepak Tarkaw team. Kumar and his team mates had won bronze medal and brought laurels to the country but what is disappointing is that he is forced to sell tea at his father’s tea shop to support his family.

“I have many family members and there is a very meagre source of income. I help my father at the tea shop to support my family. I dedicate four hours every day between 2 to 6 for my practice. For my future, I want to get a good job to support my family”, Harish Kumar was quoted by ANI.

Harish said that he was introduced to this sport and to Sports Authority Of India (SAI) by his coach Hemraj back in 2011.

His mother Indira Devi said that she had raised her children with lots of difficulty. Harish’s father is an auto driver and the family has a small tea shop. She said that she was thankful to the government for providing food and accommodation to her son. She said that her son sells tea to support his father.

The entire family was thankful to coach Hemraj for help following which Harish could achieve a medal in the Asian Games 2018. The family now urges government to provide Harish a job to that he can assist them.
