Jammu/Srinagar: Four civilians were injured on Sunday in Pakistani shelling and firing on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector.
Police sources said the Pakistan Army resorted to shelling and firing on the LoC in Baramulla district overnight and also around 2 p.m. on Sunday.
“Four civilians were injured in Pakistani shelling and firing in Kamalkote area,” a police officer said. “The injured have been shifted to a hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable.”
The Indian Army retaliated strongly.
Heavy firing exchanges also took place on Sunday between Indian and Pakistani troopers on the LoC in Poonch district, a Defence Ministry official said.
“At around 4.30 a.m., the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling mortars and firing small arms along the LoC in the Krishna Ghati sector,” Defence Ministry spokesman Lt. Col Devender Anand said.
“Our positions effectively retaliated. The firing exchanges stopped at 7.30 a.m.,” he added.
Authorities have closed all educational institutions within a 5 km radius from the LoC, which divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan, in Poonch and Rajouri districts.
