IITK : TOSC offering school students a chance to witness ISRO and BARC
Kanpur : To develop the spirit of innovation among the school students, IIT Kanpur, on the Silver Jubilee edition of its annual technical and entrepreneurial bonanza, Techkriti 2019, has rolled out new and revamped version of Techkriti Open School Championship (TOSC).
Contrary to other competitive examinations, instead of just testing academic aptitude, TOSC focuses on innovation and pragmatism while dealing with real-life problems. It aims at strengthening mental aptitude, logic and scrutiny and providing a platform to build fundamental experience and knowledge, exercise coordination skills while providing solutions never thought of before, said the organising team of TOSC.
The championship this year will consist of two phases in which the students are required to form a team which will consist of two members. The first phase is conducted in both languages – Hindi and English and is open to all enthusiastic students from classes 9th to 12th. Registration fees for a team is Rs. 300.
The students will be divided into two pools, Pool A and Pool B. While Pool A will consist of students of 9th and 10th, and Pool B will consist of students of 11th and 12th. The first round consists of a 90 minute written exam, broadly comprising of objective type questions on Mental ability, aptitude, puzzles and general awareness.
This year round one will take place in various cities across the country, including Kanpur, Mumbai, Kota and Gwalior to name a few, on October 21 this year, results for which will be declared on November 1.
50 teams from each pool from a total of 100 teams will be called on to IIT Kanpur for the next round, which will comprise of a variety of puzzles and other competitive activities which will not only decide the winner but also help the participants explore and enhance their cognitive and analytical skills. Also, there
will be various exhibitions, technical workshops and talks as a part of Phase 2. This Phase is scheduled to be held on December 23, 2018.
TOSC has valuable prizes at stake for both the pools. These include a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit and have a guided tour of ISRO for the winners from each pool.
The first and second runner-ups from each pool will get a guided tour of BARC.
A Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal for top three teams, trophies for Top 10 teams from each pool, Gold medals to the city toppers, E-certificate of participation to all the candidates, Rank certificate to top 250 teams from each pool and Tshirts along with certificates of merit for all those participating in phase 2.
There are also prizes for the schools as a whole. These include, the Best School award which will be presented to the school having the most number of participants.
