FIROZABAD: A chilling case of obsession and one-sided love has emerged from the Shikohabad police station area of Firozabad district, Uttar Pradesh, shaking the local community to its core. A disgruntled youth, infuriated by a marriage rejection, brutally murdered a woman’s one-and-a-half-year-old son by repeatedly slamming him onto the ground. A highly disturbing CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, capturing the accused savagely throwing the toddler onto the concrete eight times in a deserted alley. After committing the heinous crime, the accused left the toddler’s lifeless body outside the house and fled the scene.

The deceased child, Aarav, was living with his mother, Rati, and his maternal grandmother, Pinki, due to an ongoing marital dispute between Rati and her husband. Meanwhile, Viraj, alias Jitendra Pathak—a resident of Budaun and the son of Rati’s husband’s paternal aunt—had been pressuring Rati to marry him for a long time. Viraj was deeply resentful after Rati rejected his advances, citing that she was already married and had a child. On Saturday, Rati and her mother had gone to visit a relative in Yadav Colony, Shikohabad. Around 3:00 PM, Viraj also arrived at the location.

Luring the innocent toddler under the pretext of buying him candies, Viraj took Aarav with him. Since he was a relative, the family let the child go without any suspicion. Driven by the warped belief that Rati would never marry him as long as the child was alive, Viraj targeted the boy. Finding a secluded alley, he brutally slammed the child onto the ground, causing severe head injuries that resulted in Aarav's on-the-spot death. When the panicked family rushed the toddler to the hospital, doctors pronounced him brought dead.

Recognizing the gravity and sensitivity of the crime, the police launched a swift crackdown. On Saturday evening, authorities received intelligence that Viraj was lurking near the Bhuda Bharthara intersection, planning to flee the area. As the police team closed in to surround him, the accused opened fire. In self-defense, the police retaliated, shooting the accused in both legs. Viraj collapsed and was immediately apprehended. The police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, empty shells, and five live cartridges from his possession. The injured accused has been admitted to the district hospital under heavy security, where police are conducting further interrogation.
