Morning Walk Turns Fatal: Lawyer Shot Dead by Bike-Borne Assailants, CCTV Captures Brutal Attack

Mirzapur | A senior lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight on Saturday morning in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur. He was out on a routine morning walk when he was murdered. The shocking incident took place in the Katwaru Ka Pura locality under Katra Kotwali area, around 2 km from the district headquarters.

According to police, the victim, identified as 50-year-old advocate Rajiv Singh, had stepped out for his daily walk when two bike-borne assailants intercepted him. The attackers stopped him on the road and shot him at point-blank range in the chest. Locals rushed the critically injured lawyer to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

After carrying out the murdered, the accused fled the spot. Their motorcycle stalled while escaping, but when locals tried to chase them, the assailants brandished firearms, forcing people to back off before fleeing. The entire incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.

Superintendent of Police Aparna Rajat Kaushik said that a political rivalry is suspected to be the motive behind the murder. The victim’s wife is a village head (Gram Pradhan), and the prime accused, identified as Rajendra Sonkar, had previously contested the same election. Police have formed multiple teams to arrest the accused, and further investigation is underway.
